 BFI Documentary

In the February half term, I got accepted onto a BFI Film academy course for documentary. I traveled up to London, and stayed there for a week to create this documentary called "The Milkman". Being vegetarian myself, and many of my friends being vegan, I was very passionate about this documentary, and myself and my team wanted to create a doc that conveyed the changing industry of the milk trade. With global warming having more media coverage than ever, the milk industry is in fact declining in the respect of small dairy farms like Wren Davis (where we visited and based our documentary on). Although at first I felt that milk is ultimately bad for our environment, this documentary helped me see the different side to the story. Wren Davis is a small dairy farm, suing recyclable bottles, and treating their cow fairly and environmentally friendly. With small, family based companies such as this, the environment is not damaged, and local businesses are supported. Making this doc was very eye opening for me, and I felt enriched having done this, even though it was a stressful and jam packed week in order to finish the film! My role was editor for this film, which I picked specifically due to the fact that I wanted to improve my skills. Having come into college with no knowledge of Premier Pro or how to use it, I felt this role would give me more hindsight into tricks and tips of using PP. our film tutor Tommy, was in fact an editor himself, and his style matched mine very well. He was extremely helpful in showing me tricks with soundscapes, using archive footage, framing and video effects. I also got the chance to improve my skills as DOP, using Sony FS7 cameras to shoot out doc. Overall, I am immensely proud of this documentary, and am relived that the hours we slaved in the editing process payed off.
