     Pyro

What I would do not to look

At those eyes of yours it took

Just one glance to know

That I hope they catch you

You’re a liar in the dark

Open fire on my heart

Will you be around?

When the world is crashing down

Crashing down

And I said will you be around?

When it all comes down

Will you be around

When it all comes down

Clean sheets on the bed

It doesn’t matter you’re in my head

I’d rather drown alone instead

I’m gunna catch you

You’re a liar in the dark

Open fire on my heart

Will you be around

When the world is crashing down

Crashing down

And I said will you be around?

Let it burn let it crash down

This world I built you around

Your hands are foreign to me now

What in the world am I going to do

When my love is holding you

Let it all crash down

Let it all crash down

Lyric Analysis

In the first verse, I wanted to connote a sense of unwillingness to reconnect with the said past flame. Therefore, getting across the idea that the two-people ended on bad terms. There’s a feeling in this first verse that she would go back in a heartbeat, and that all the past troubles and turmoil would be washed away. I’d like to portray this powerful connection she has with said person through the metaphor of water throughout, a constant, moving element that makes new paths and can wash away hurtful memories.

"What I would do not to look"

However, by the end of the first verse, this feeling is extinguished with a Volta.

"All my senses blind"

This idea of love being a race or something you win and lose in gives connotations of an unhealthy relationship. This lyric is repeated throughout as I wanted to further reinforce how although these memories (water) keep flooding back, there is still the more powerful feelings of hate. Therefore here I would add shots of water and contrast it with the shots of flames and fire to connote the constant inner struggle. This song is very powerful and energy driven, and I’d like to represent this with the symbol of fire. When I wrote this song, I wanted it to be punchy and daring, to be angry and be able to connect with people from the point of view of bad relationships.

Themes of violence come through in the pre-chorus with the line:

"Open fire on my heart"

I wanted to use the idea of darkness in the lyrics, with it connoting how we reside in the dark memories of our past. Moreover, it alludes to the idea of witchcraft and supernatural, which I want to use in my video. Therefore, here I would like to have some shadow projection shots of Poppy, which would add to the witchcraft aspect with her dancing slowly and in a ritualistic manner.

In the pre-chorus, this is further reinforced with accusation in the tone of the line;

"Will you be around?"

The demanding question I used here builds up to the chorus, directly questioning them about their commitment to the relationship. As the pre- chorus continues, there are themes of destruction, burning and decay:

"When the world is crashing down"

I'd like these shots to begin to build the video, with quick cut shots and dark, red lighting. Moreover, I'd like to have quick cuts from Aysha walking into the moonlight path and then Eve in front of the fire, showing the juxtaposing of elements head to head, fire vs. water. The fire is literally burning down the wood, connoting the corruption effect. When it drops from the pre-chorus to the chorus, I'd like to use the shot of Poppy falling into the water, to connote a sense of loss, and also deterioration of self. This beat would then go back into the dark fire shots.

For the second verse, the lyrics reference:

"Clean sheets on the bed"

I'd like to have large, white sheets (perhaps bed linen) in the sea/ lake, and having an actor floating around, with the sheets enveloping them, to again create this tainted, claustrophobic effect. I feel this shot would look effective in slow motion to again connote the motif of time. With this line I conveyed a sense of guilt from the past relationship, but also that you can't completely rid someone from your life. The line

"Drown alone instead"

Is going to be a repeated motif in my video, as I want to have the same shot of Poppy in the water every time. This would create a feeling of loneliness to the protagonist , but also defiance.

The final chorus of the video is important in climaxing the video, and I would like to use quick cut shots and further emphasise the colour tones in this section. The line-

"Let it burn let it crash down"

Is important in connoting the sense of destruction that relationships can create, and give. I'd like to use a shot of Poppy falling into the water here, as I feel this would connote a "crash" and further emphasis the idea of her memories and past feelings falling apart.

Moreover, the line-

"Your hands are foreign to me now"

Is the final lyric which shows her need to let them go, and that these memories are no longer holding her back. She is free of the past and can now become who she needs to be. This line is perhaps the most powerful lyric in the whole song, as the listener finally realises that memories shouldn't' necessarily hold you back, but aid you in becoming a stronger person.
