 Inspiration

To help with ideas for my costume throughout the film, I decided to create a Pinterest board to gather inspiration.

From this, I decided I wanted to create a juxtaposition that would aid the visual (fire and water). To do this I would have the fire shots with dark makeup and clothing, whereas the water shots would be white clothing and minimal makeup, to connote the dark and light sides of the human psyche. For makeup, I specifically wanted to draw symbols and or symmetrical lines to create runes, this would again add to the witch aspect of my video. This would be paired with an abundance of jewellery, eg. pendant necklaces and rings. Overall, I found using Pinterest to help with brainstorming ideas very helpful with this aspect of my music video.

Make Up

For the make up aspects of my film, I wanted to create some dramatic looks for the video. This would relate to the witch/supernatural aspects of my shots, and also add a darker side to my actors appearance in addition to the costume. Therefore, I did a different eyeliner look on all three of my actors in the video and myself. For Poppy, I did small stars on her outer corners of the eyes and a small bird looking silhouette in the middle of her eyebrows. Moreover, I did dark eyeshadow to extenuate her eye colour. For Aysha, I did a similar look, with dark shadow under her eyes, and small black lines under her eyes, looking similar to clown makeup. For Eve, I wanted to do a more dramatic look, as she would be representing Atropos, who in the Greek Myth was the one who cut the thread of human life. Therefore, I decided to do  three vertical lines to represent the Three Moiria, and an over dramatic eyeliner in comparison with the other two, and another straight line on her lips to add symmetry to the look. Overall, I think the make-up added drama and excitement to the shots, and made the scenes with the witch/cult dancing more intriguing and successful.

Costume

In addition to the make up, the costume was equally important. For the shots in the woods, I wanted complete black for the costume with a supernatural "witchy" aesthetic. For Eve, she wore a long black dress, with a large pendant necklace, as she represented the most powerful of the three goddesses. For Aysha and Poppy, they wore a shorter tight black dress one with long flowing sleeves. I added lots of jewellery, including rings and pendant necklaces, to add to the supernatural theme.

In the water scenes, Poppy wore a long flowy black dress, which made a nice effect in the water, giving an almost suspended effect. In the editing stages, I intend to have these shots in slow motion, so the long flowing material will contrast well with the intensity of the other shots.

For the moonlight shot, Aysha wore a white dress, to connote the contrast of the dark scenes (red) and the light scenes (Blue) connoting the present and past (memories) as seen in the song. Due to filming at night, I felt it was suitable to wear white instead of black, as she would stand out more in the moonlight, reflecting off the natural light and creating a beacon effect.

In the fire scenes, the costume wasn't the main focal point as I would just be using their silhouettes in front of the fire, however, I did use long sleeves and dresses to create the foreboding supernatural effect.
