 Foley Sound Short Film

To experiment with different sound effects with film for our Narrative project, we were asked to create a short one minute film and add Foley sounds. There needed to be long un-interrupted shorts, so I decided to film at my local reservoir by my house. I could easily find sounds that completely juxtaposed the surroundings and create a completely different feel and vibe to the film. I decided to use electronic and futuristic sounds, including: fax machines, lasers, doorbells, Morse code, electricity, jets and rain to contrast with the sunny weather in the shots. I also used some running water shots, so taking away the sound from these and adding the electric sounds was interesting in creating a completely different shot. In conclusion, I feel the film works well in creating a surrealist setting and opening me up to using non-diegetic sounds in my films. To create this piece, I filmed the shots on my phone and used my iPhone gimble to create panning and steady shots, so as not to take away from the sounds. I editied it in iMovie, using the sound effects avaliable on the programme.
